| | This new facility at Grinnell College was designed to provide a centralized facility on campus for dining, social activities and services. The building is organized around a central courtyard space which can be viewed from the adjacent dining and lounge areas. The courtyard was designed to accommodate outdoor events including dining, concerts, lectures and graduation ceremonies.
Integrated snow melt systems were designed into the paving to keep stairs and walkways free of ice and snow since this building is used at all times of the day and night. Several bicycle parking areas were provided to help support the extensive use of bicycles on campus. A campus wide shared bicycle program allows students to simply hop on a bike at one location and leave it at their destination for the next person to use.
