| | A successful urban development plan must marry the desire to preserve history with a commitment to contemporary design while seamlessly joining the existing urban landscape. This goal will be accomplished by creating a dynamic pedestrian experience with ground level commercial activities, parking & residential units within sensitive building massing & architectural detail.
Buildings proposed weave two existing sites at 183 & 253 State Street to create an enriched pedestrian environment between the State Street & Union Square Train Stations. New green spaces at these locations combine with the existing triangular park in the middle of State Street to enhance this corridor. Parking is sensitively placed in relationship to existing & proposed retail spaces. This development integrates the existing urban fabric & complements with other development projects currently underway in this area of New Haven. Developing the corner of Chapel & State Street will reinforce the connection between downtown & the Wooster Square neighborhood.
We envision this as a “sustainable” project utilizing strategies such as taking advantage of building orientation, daylight & green roofs as well as photovoltaic panels & co-generation to minimize the impact of new development on city infrastructure. |
