| | Moving to a new location on the Branford green offered the owners an opportunity to blend the rugged character of the interior of their Guilford location with the more colorful, dynamic character of the New Haven store. Sensitive lighting, increasing view and orientation from the street and signage were important in maintaining the appropriate character of the store in this central green location.
The client’s goals and architecture’s solutions focused on evaluating the character and needs of the community and incorporating this into the design to create a vocabulary that is contextual and reflects the retailer. Developing ways to create effective retail product display in this unusually deep space through designing a series of folding walls, layered in a progression of hues to create visual interest and varied product display. Creating more wall space to compensate for glass area was solved by designing pogo-stick-like walls to screen windows. It provides more product display and acts as a light filter for the south facing facade. |
